The 4 Best Seat Cover Protectors for Dog Owners

Man’s best friend is our comrade in arms. A happy disposition and a loyal companion is why having a dog is a joy.

But, taking them for a car ride frequently can leave hairs scattered on your seats. Which is an easy fix with a seat cover!

Whether your dog sits up front or likes to hang out in the back seat, we’ve found something to suit your needs.

Here are the 4 best car seat covers for dog owners:

1. Pedy Pet Front Seat Cover for Cars

Do you have a co-pilot dog hanging around your front seat on the regular? If so, Pedy Pet’s seat cover is the common choice.

It’s an affordable pleated option that has slight cushioning.

It attaches to your headrest with a plastic buckle, and has slip-resistant indentations underneath to help keep it in place.

In summary, it’s an affordable option that doesn’t take up much space and does the job. Polyester fabric is by nature water resistant(not water proof), so if your dog has an accident you can save your fabric and wipe this down instead.

They say it’s machine washable but it’s probably a better idea to hand wash this in warm soap and water.

There is a seat anchor as well to help keep the mid section taut. Besides being used for dogs, many people use this to protect their seats from their younger children! They are indeed prone to messes.

2. 4Knines Dog Seat Cover with Hammock for Cars, Trucks and SUVs

This seat cover from 4Knines bears a striking resemblance to our first option, but this time it covers the entire backseat!

If you like the pleated look of the Pedy Pet, but keep your dog in the back then this is for you.

Another similarity is that it’s made of polyester. While the seller claims water proof, a more accurate approximation is that it’s water resistant.

This is secured at 4 points. A loop and buckle latch for each of your headrests. There are also two sizes, large and extra large. There are opening woven into the fabric for you to get your seat belt on securely even with this attached.

We like the extra thoughtfulness of putting flaps on the sides of the fabric to fully protect the seats.

Our one gripe is the price bracket. It is more expensive than most other options. If you have more to spend and like the look, we get it. With thousands of positive reviews, the populace has spoken. It’s a good product.

3. AmazonBasics Waterproof Car Back Bench Seat Cover Protector for Pets

Our next two options have taken a detour from the pleated side of life.

AmazonBasics has thrown their name into the ring with this simple and affordable seat cover

It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, nor does it cover the sides of your seat. But, it’s an excellent value that meets anyones price point!

If the picture gives you the impression that this will slide around(and that may be true), you’ll be surprised to hear it has six points of contact.

That’s more than any option here. It first attaches through the headrests, then there are two seat anchors, and finally there are two elastic straps. While that sounds good in theory, this WILL slip. There is a lot of give in the fabric and no non-slip undercoating.

For most pet owners, it’s a great solution. If you want something a bit fancier that will stay put, go with the 4Knines.

4. Active Pets Dog Back Seat Cover Protector Waterproof Scratchproof Hammock for Dogs

Active Pets has made our favorite cover of all for the backseat. You can really tell that a lot of love went into this design.

It isn’t just a cut piece of fabric, despite being so affordable.

The edges are stitched, the side flaps protect your seat, and there are four sturdy points of contact. We really do dig this.

The orange option for coloring is a nice touch. Or you can keep it black. It’s waterproof but made with a soft coating from cotton. Which most people prefer the feel of compared to polyester.

Overall it’s our top choice and if you go with it, let us know!

How do I keep these covers clean?

While some covers do say they’re able to be machine washed on light settings, it’s probably best to hand wash any of these. They’re better suited for spot cleaning and light scrubbing by hand.

What are some good ways to remove pet hair on my car seat?

Sometimes even the cover needs a good clean. The most popular options we found were either a portable vacuum or a lint brush.

Hopefully, you and your dog can ride in style with one of these covers and we’ve made your choice a bit easier. The Active Pets cover is our favorite option, but all four of these will suit you well.

If you end up purchasing something from this list, be sure to come back here and let us know how it worked out for you. We love hearing from our readers. Thanks for stopping by and good luck on your search!
