1. Thule Camber Hitch Bike Rack

Overall Best

Thule’s Camber hitch bike rack features an all metal design, a sturdy bike mount system and one of the highest load capacities we’ve seen in any hanging bike rack.

Thule’s bike racks for minivans have the best build quality, hands down. This one is no different, with an all metal build that is more rigid and firm than other bike racks on the market. It is treated with a special coating that also resists rust and keeps corrosion at bay.

If you want to carry heavier electric bikes, mountain bikes, etc, the loading capacity of this bike rack can accommodate any of them. It is rated for 150 lbs, perfect for 4 bikes. Even when fully loaded, we did not notice the rack bending or flexing, and our bikes stayed secure.

Thule has used sturdy tiedown straps which hold the bikes at their frames. These ratcheting straps are adjustable and can accommodate a wide variety of bike frames. They also rotate, allowing you to fit non-conventional bike frames as well. They are lined in soft material to avoid scratching the bikes.

We were impressed by how firm and stable this bike rack is at speed. It uses a 1.25” or 2” hitch receiver, and both configurations are perfectly stable. On the road, this bike rack performs really well. We drove our minivan on brand new pavement and bumpy roads alike.

The bike rack kept our bikes in place. There was no shaking or bouncing. Moreover, the longer carrying arms allow for over 7” of space between each bike, keeping them further apart, so that they don’t interact during transit.

The carrying arms can fold down into a smaller footprint when no bikes are being carried. This is great for parking in tight spaces, and also for storing the rack when it isn’t being used. Furthermore, the rack can tilt down even with all four bikes mounted, allowing for easier lift gate access.

All of the mounting hardware is provided in the box, and if you don’t want to go over the instructions, there are a number of videos to accompany the install process.

To sum up, we think the Thule Camber hitch bike rack is the default choice for your minivan. It is well built, sturdy at speed, and keeps your bikes firmly in place.

2. Thule EasyFold XT 2 Hitch Bike Rack

Premium option

This is another bike rack from Thule that continues the trend of high quality build, impressive load capacity, a secure bike mount, and all-around best in class performance.

Starting off with build quality, the EasyFold XT uses the highest grade aluminium for most of the build. Aluminium offers a couple of advantages over steel and other materials. It is more rigid and structurally sound, while also being more resistant to corrosion and rust.

Load capacity is also worthy of praise. It is rated for a good 130 lbs. While that won’t blow your socks off, you have to consider that this is a two bike platform rack. That means it is meant to carry the heaviest bikes you can find.

Stability is this rack’s strong suit. It uses a 1.25” or 2” receiver. We tested both of these configurations and can report that they are quite stable and firm at highway speed.

The bike cradles themselves comprise platforms that hold both front and back wheels in place. Then there are the adjustable ratcheting straps which fasten both wheels to the frame to the bike rack. There is an adjustable central mast that holds the bikes at their frames.

To put it in a nutshell, this bike rack performs really well. Our bikes stayed perfectly still and did not wobble or shift while we were on the road.

Compatibility is another plus point. It can accommodate a maximum of 48 inch wheelbase. Both bikes are kept 9 inches apart, preventing any damage. The installation process is also pretty simple. We did not need more than 20 minutes to have the rack fully set up and ready to go.

One cool feature of this bike rack is that it also uses torque limiting knobs which make mounting your bikes a heck of a lot easier. There is an integrated bike ramp for faster loading of bikes. The whole rack can fold into a small footprint, allowing for easier manoeuvring of your minivan.

If you need to access your minivan’s trunk, the rack will tilt forward to allow for easier lift gate access. And the EasyFold isn’t done yet. It also comes with included locks that secure both the bikes and the rack to your vehicle.

Best Budget

This hanging style bike rack from Ikuram delivers a great balance of build, load capacity, and utility. It also comes in at a more affordable price than most other bike racks in its category.

Ikuram uses high-quality alloy steel for the construction of this bike rack. We stress tested this rack and it took everything with a smile on its face. Even fully loaded up, the rack did not strain or bend under the weight.

It is treated with a thick powder coating than other bike racks we’ve tested. This prevents scratches, and general wear and tear of the bike rack.

The carrying arms on this bike rack or outfitted with sturdy ratcheting straps for an adjustable, tight fit. These straps secure your bike frames and keep them in place, even at higher speed and on bumpy roads. You’ll be happy to know that the straps are lined in soft material to prevent any damage to your bike’s paintwork.

The ratcheting straps are the most durable we’ve ever seen. That is thanks to the fatigue testing Ikuram have put them through, ensuring that these straps will not crack or loosen over time.

It holds two bikes, and has a load capacity of just under 90 lbs. That is plenty for most large sized road bikes, however it won’t accommodate some heavier E-bikes.

The hitch mounted design is really stable and firm. We did not have to worry about the hitch moving around inside the receiver, thanks to the inclusion of an anti-wobble component.

It may be an affordable rack, but it still has some cool features up its sleeve. The carrying arms can be folded when not in use, making it easier to park your minivan in a garage or just drive around town. The rack also tilts forward so that you can access your rear cargo area more easily.

Installing the rack is no great feat. You get all of the necessary hardware in the box, and you won’t really need any special tools. All said and done, you should have it up and running in less than 20 minutes.

4. Allen Sports 2-Bike Hitch Racks

Allen Sports is another mainstay of our top bike rack lists. Their 2-bike hitch rack provides exceptional build quality, a sturdy bike mount system, and plenty of load capacity for general use.

The construction of this Allen Sports bike rack deserves your attention. It is an all alloy steel build, with a thick black powder coat for enhanced rust protection. In our experience, the rack is well built and durable. It uses either a 1 ¼” or 2” receiver, so it’s compatible with whichever one your minivan has.

Load capacity, while decent, isn’t the greatest. This rack can carry two bikes at a time, for a total of around 75 lbs. That’s actually in line with other road bike racks, but you won’t be carrying mountain bikes or bikes any time soon.

It’s a platform style bike rack and uses a special cradle system to secure your bikes. The rear wheels of both bikes sit on metal loops with ratcheting straps that hold them tightly. The front wheels are held on a smaller cradle with straps. And then there is a central mast which the bike frames.

We found this mounting system to be quite firm and stable. We would’ve liked to see metal loops for both wheels of both bikes, but this setup works pretty well.

On the road, this is a perfectly stable bike rack. It does not wobble or shake around. And even on bumpier terrain, we did not have any issues with the bikes banging up against each other or the back of your minivan.

As with any bike rack of this size, it can be folded up when not in use for easier transport and storage. There is a tilting mechanism that allows you to access your minivan’s liftgate more easily without unloading your bikes.

Installation is not the easiest we’ve seen. You will need to refer to the instructions quite a bit, and we didn’t find that many helpful videos online.

That said, this does come with Allen Sports limited lifetime warranty, which is always a plus when it comes to minivan bike racks.

5. Bike Rack for Car, BENETA Bicycle Car Rack

Beneta’s bike rack for minivans is a heavy duty option that delivers a robust construction, a completely wobble-free bike mount, and enough loading capacity for four of the largest bikes you can get your hands on.

We did not expect this bike rack to be as well built as it is. The powder coated premium iron is more rigid and firm than other bike racks we’ve tested. Not to mention, the slick black finish on the exterior just looks a lot nicer than dull matte finishes of other racks.

One of the standout features of this bike rack is its anti-sway construction. The hitch has a special anti-rattle stabiliser piece, that works as advertised and keeps your rack from wobbling at speed.

Besides that, the fitment is already pretty sturdy. The 2-inch hitch also uses locking pins, which make it even more firm and secure.

Load capacity for this bike rack is rated for a whopping 220 lbs. That’s one of the highest on this list, and allows you to carry 4 large, heavy bicycles at the same time.

In our testing, the fully loaded rack did not exhibit any signs of strain or flex, even when we drove our minivan on bumpy roads and over some potholes.

As expected, this rack allows for folding of the carrying arms when they aren’t being used, making it easier to store and transport. Furthermore, the whole rack can tilt forward, even with 220 lbs of load, for easier lift gate access.

As for the actual bike mount, the carrying arms use thick nylon straps. These straps secure your bikes at the frame and are adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of frame sizes. We would have preferred some high quality ratcheting straps, but these work just as well.

We tested over a dozen different types of frames, and all of them fit like a glove. You shouldn’t have any issues mounting most any regular sized road bike on this bike rack.

If you’re worried about the bikes banging up against the back of your minivan, put your fears to rest. Beneta include some extra straps that you can use to secure the bike’s front wheels and handlebars to keep them from damaging your rear glass or the other bikes.

To sum up, this is one of our top picks for minivan bike racks owing to the secure fitment and exceptional load capacity. Definitely consider it if you’re in the market for a high-quality minivan bike rack.

Cons

  • Adjustable ratcheting straps would have been even more secure

6. MAXXHAUL 50025 Hitch Mounted 2-Bike Rack-100 lb Capacity

Maxxhaul’s hitch mounted 2-bike rack has a lot going for it. It sports a lightweight design, but still has a high quality construction. The load capacity is also on the higher side for a 2-bike rack and will hold larger bikes without a problem. The budget price is also really attractive.

The build quality of this budget rack is anything but. High-quality alloy steel is used for most of the construction. A soft rubberised sleeve on the main mast prevents the innermost mounted bike from scratching or denting the bike rack.

It is compatible with both 1 ¼” and 2” hitch receivers. We really liked how firm and stable this bike rack is on the highway. We did not have to put up with any wobbling or shaking of the bikes at speed.

The load capacity of this 2-bike rack is worth praising. It is rated for 100 lbs, so you can carry 2 bikes up to 50 lbs each. We tested various mountain bikes, e-bikes and other heavy bicycles and all of them stayed perfectly in place.

We drove our minivan, with this bike rack installed, in different road conditions, and it stayed stable on all of them. That is thanks to the unique tiedown system that Maxxhaul employs.

The bike cradles comprise two buckle straps for each bike frame. These straps are adjustable so you can carry different shaped and sized bike frames. They are also lined in soft rubber to avoid scratching the paintwork of your bike.

When you’re on the road, you won’t have to worry about the bikes banging into one another or the back of your minivan. The whole rack is exceptionally firm thanks to the locking knob on the main mast keeps the whole rack locked in place.

The carrying arms can be folded down when not in use, and the whole rack tilts forward to allow for easier lift gate access. There are two safety reflectors on the back, which allow other drivers to see your bike rack more clearly at night. The tilting mechanism can be controlled using a quick release pin at the bottom of the rack.

  • Safety reflectors on the back (extra points for this one)

Cons

  • Some longer wheelbase bikes may not fit without an adapter

7. AmazonBasics Bike Racks

The AmazonBasics bike rack is for the minivan owner who does not want to fiddle around with complicated installation. This durable and well built rack comes in different load capacities for your particular needs, and mounts firmly on the back of your minivan.

This rack is made from high-quality iron that is powder coated to prevent any scratches or corrosion. We would ever like to see alloy steel, or even aluminium for the build, but this one is just as firm and rigid as the other racks we’ve tested. We did not have any issues with bending or flexing under load.

Speaking of, this rack holds a maximum of 33 lbs per bike. And it comes in various bike capacities. You can get either a 2,3 or 4-bike model, depending on how many you need to carry. The largest configuration can hold up to 140 lbs without breaking a sweat.

We tested this bike rack with our minivan on different terrains. The hitch is firmly mounted and does not wobble or shake around. There are also anti-wobble knobs at both ends of the main mast to help with stability.

The bike cradles use straps that are spaced further apart to prevent your bikes from colliding with each other. The straps use high-quality rubber which is weatherproof and sturdy. They are also adjustable so you can carry different bike frame shapes and sizes. We weren’t able to mount low-Y frame bikes, so definitely pick up an adapter if you need to.

As expected, the carrying arms can fold down and the rack can tilt back when you need to access your cargo space. The minimalist design also earns this rack some points.

But really, you buy this rack for the ease of installation. We haven’t seen another bike rack that is as quick to install. The instructions are clear and concise, and you don’t need any extra tools to get the job done. All in, it’ll take you less than 15 minutes to have the rack fully set up.

Pros

  • Premium iron construction

  • Rack can tilt for easier cargo access
  • Folding carrying arms for better portability
  • Minimalist aesthetic goes well with any minivan
The easiest installation we have ever done

Cons

  • Lightweight aluminium or alloy steel would have been a better choice of material

8. Allen Sports Deluxe 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack

This isn’t the first Allen Sports bike rack on this list, nor will it be the last. Their Deluxe 4-bike rack gets you a secure bike mount, impressive load capacity, and one of the most stable hitch connections with your minivan.

Allen Sports focuses on durability with this bike rack. It sports a heavy duty metal build that is really well put together. The alloy steel construction is more rigid and firm than plastic or other materials.

You also get a slick black powder coating for better rust and corrosion resistance. And the gloss black finish is a welcome departure from dull and boring matte finishes.

This hanging style bike rack features 22 inch long carrying arms, allowing you to mount all of your bikes further apart, so that they don’t bang into one another or the back of your minivan.

The carrying arms are outfitted with durable ratcheting straps that are adjustable and tight fitment. There is also a soft inner lining on all of the straps which prevents them from damaging your bike frames.

If you need to carry larger, heavier bikes, this is the rack for you. It is rated for a load capacity of around 140 lbs. That means you can carry most large, adult sized road bikes, and even some mountain bikes and e-bikes if necessary.

However, we would not recommend carrying more than one e-bike or mountain bike at a time if you are carrying 4 bikes.

It uses a 2” hitch which we found to be really firm and stable at highway speed. There is an included no wobble bolt which removes any slack between the receiver and the hitch for a perfectly firm connection.

If you’re worried about adding too much length to your minivan, this bike rack can fold down its carrying arms, making it easier to store and transport. The whole rack can also tilt forward even with four bikes loaded onto it, allowing for easier cargo access.

It’s not perfect, though. Firstly, there is no way of securing the front wheel and handlebars of your bikes. At the very least, we would have liked to see some included bungee cords or straps. for products purchased through a third party.

Pros

  • Alloy steel build
  • Powder coated for corrosion resistance
  • Holds 4 bikes
  • Compatible with different frame shapes
  • Easy to install
  • Stabiliser piece prevents wobbling
  • Sturdy straps
Lined in rubber to prevent scratching frames
  • Tilts down for easier cargo access
  • Arms fold down to make it more compact

Cons

  • No included straps for securing handlebars

9. MaxxHaul 50027 Hitch Mount Platform Style

Maxxhaul’s platform style bike rack for minivans comes on the scene with a durable build, reasonable load capacity, and a confidence inspiring bike mount that keeps your two wheelers safe and secure.

Maxxhaul’s bike racks are built to exacting standards. That trend is continued in this rack with its all metal construction and thick black powder coating for better rust and corrosion resistance. We stress tested the heck out of this rack, and it did not so much as flex under the load.

It also works really well for keeping your bikes in place. The bike cradles are made up of two wheel loops per bike and a carrying arm on the main mast for holding the bike frames. This carrying arm uses adjustable ratcheting straps for a more precise fit with different bike frames. The straps have soft rubber on the inside to avoid scratching or denting your bikes.

The load capacity of this bike rack leaves a lot to be desired. It is rated for around 80 lbs, which isn’t the highest we have seen. Factor in the two bike capacity, and you can only load about 40 lbs per bike, which is a bit lacking.

This also means that you won’t be carrying heavier mountain bikes or e-bikes with this rack. The same goes for fat tire bikes, which won’t fit in the narrow wheel loops of this bike rack.

However, it does have its perks. The 2 inch hitch is quite secure and firm at speed. We did not notice any bouncing or shaking of the bike rack, even with two large bikes loaded up. Installing it is also pretty straightforward, thanks to the simple instructions and intuitive design.

We also really liked the folding design of this platform style rack. Platform style racks tend to be larger and heavier than others, so it came as a pleasant surprise when we were able to fold this rack into a much smaller footprint.

The same goes for the unique tilting mechanism of this bike rack. The angle of tilt is higher than most other bike racks, which gives you a lot more room to work in when you need to access your cargo area.

Pros

  • Highest grade alloy steel build
  • Thick powder coating is applied
  • More resistant to rust and corrosion
  • No flexing or bending in fully loaded rack
  • Wheel loops keep both wheels in place

2” hitch is stable and firm

10. XCAR 2-Bike Universal Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier

XCar’s 2-bike universal bike rack can be described as simple. Simple installation, simple bike mount system, and a simple design that fits right in with any minivan. The price tag on the other hand, can be described as irresistible.

This is an affordable bike rack from XCar. It takes a leaf out of the more premium rack’s books, featuring an alloy steel design, and special surface coating that soaks up any scratches and discourages rust.

Load capacity is in line with other hanging style bike racks. 80 lbs won’t accommodate the heaviest e-bikes or mountain bikes, but should be enough for most large sized road bikes.

The advantage here is that the rack is never stressed. It does not shake or bend, and we did not notice any rattling noises coming from the rack.

What it lacks in load capacity, it makes up for with its sturdy bike mount system. Your bikes are held at the frame by two ratcheting straps each. These ratcheting straps are adjustable, and will fit most any bike you throw at them.

They are soft, UV resistant rubber, so they won’t damage your bike, nor will they be damaged after being exposed to the elements.

It is compatible with 2” trailer hitches. Here again, the lower load capacity benefits the rack as we did not notice it wobbling or shaking in transit. In fact, the rack is confident at speed and keeps your bikes firmly secured.

There is a large safety reflector on the main mast, which makes your vehicle and the bike rack more visible for drivers behind you. We also really liked the inclusion of a safety strap that can stabilise the bikes for longer journeys.

The carrying arms can be folded down when not in use so that they sit flush with the rear of your minivan. We also think that the adjustable spacing of the ratcheting straps is ingenious. We were unable to find a bike with a wheelbase long enough to not fit on this awesome bike rack.

You can also tilt the rack forward when you need to access your cargo area. We noticed that this mechanism is a bit finicky, and not nearly as smooth as with other bike racks. However, it does use a hitch pin for better security and safety.

Pros

  • Alloy steel construction
  • Surface coating resists corrosion
  • Firm and secure bike mount
  • Adjustable spacing for ratcheting straps
  • UV-resistant rubber used for ratcheting straps
  • Will fit the longest wheelbase bikes
    80 lbs load capacity
  • Foldable carrying arms
  • Tilting mechanism with hitch pin for safety
  • Wobble-free at speed
  • Does not make any rattling noises
  • Included safety strap for stabilising bikes

Cons

  • Cannot carry heavy mountain bikes or e-bikes

11. Bicycle Hitch Mount Carrier Rack

The Lite-Way 2-bike rack is aptly named. The construction of this bike rack is as lightweight as it is durable. It keeps your two wheelers firmly secured, and does not wobble or shake in transit.

Here, we have another budget friendly minivan bike rack. The material of choice is premium iron, which is treated with a powder coating to enhance its corrosion resistance. The rack is quite rigid and does not show any signs of straining under load.

Load capacity is rated for just over 70 lbs. That is plenty for larger road bikes but will not hold any heavy mountain bikes or e-bikes. However, if you keep weight down, it performs really well. In fact, we found that, in a pinch, we could get away with carrying just one lighter mountain bike on this rack. But don’t expect it to carry multiple heavy e-bikes cross country.

The best part about this bike rack is its effortless compatibility. The ratcheting straps are endlessly adjustable, and will hold just about any shape or size of bike frame you can find. We tested various unconventional frames as well, and this bike rack did not disappoint. Some low-Y bikes will need an adapter.

We were surprised to find that this affordable rack comes with a special no wobble bolt for added stability at speed. Until now, we have only seen this feature in more expensive bike racks. Furthermore, it also comes with a hitch stabiliser that does away with annoying rattling sounds and shaking of the bike rack at speed.

We tested this bike rack with our minivan over pavement and some bumpy terrain as well. It performed really well in all situations, keeping the bikes secure and firmly in place.

As expected, the rack can fold down it’s carrying arms when they’re not being used. It can also tilt away the main mast to allow for easier cargo access when you’re on the road.

There are a couple of safety reflectors integrated into the frame of the bike rack, which help drivers behind you see it more clearly at night. We liked the inclusion of heavy duty nylon straps for securing the bikes.

  • Premium iron construction
  • Durable powder coating for better corrosion resistance
  • Lightweight build
  • 70 lbs load capacity
  • Can carry one lightweight mountain bike for shorter journeys

Electric bike enthusiasts rejoice! Swagman’s Current is specifically designed to carry your heavy e-bikes. It has firm bike cradles and an industry leading load capacity so you can mount the chunkiest bikes on your minivan.

We have to start off with the otherworldly construction of this bike rack. It makes use of the highest grade alloy steel for better rigidity and firmness. It is treated with a unique surface coating that fights off corrosion and soaks up small scratches and dings.

We tested this bike rack with our minivan and it left us speechless. You can use it with both a 1 ¼” and 2” hitch. Both are extraordinarily stable and firm. They do not rattle or shake and we did not notice any wobbling at speed.

Moving on to the actual bike mounts, we have two pairs of wide wheel cradles. These secure both the front and rear wheels of your bikes. There are ratcheting straps which fasten at both wheels and keep your bikes in place.

This may be a small detail, but we loved the neon green accent on these straps. This fits in well with the e-bike theme and is also seen throughout the rack’s construction.

The main mast has protruding carrying arms which hold your bikes at the frame. These arms are curved, so they will hold different sizes of bike frame. They are also padded to avoid damaging your bike’s paintwork.

One of the biggest advantages of this bike rack is its compatibility. E-bikes aside, it will hold road bikes, mountain bikes, and even fat tire bikes. That is thanks to the 5” wide bike cradles.

It is rated for around 120 lbs. That is plenty for even the heaviest e-bikes and mountain bikes. We can report that the fully loaded rack does not flex or bend at all, even at highway speed.

This rack can be folded up when not in use for a more compact footprint. It can also tilt forward, allowing for easier cargo access.

Finally, you don’t have to worry about your bikes being stolen or the rack being tampered with. There is a locking hitch pin and ratchet hooks which deter thieves.

  • Highest grade alloy steel construction

13. YAKIMA - FullTilt Tilting Hitch Rack

Yakima’s FullTilt hitch rack is another really cool bike rack for minivans. It has a 5-bike capacity, a robust build, and a secure bike mount that keeps bikes stable at speed.

The build quality of Yakima‘s bike rack deserves your attention. It uses high quality alloy steel which is more rigid and structurally sound. The alloy steel frame is firm and we did not notice any bending or flexing of the rack.

It is rated for a maximum of 150 lbs, which is enough for five large sized bicycles. Even fully loaded, the rack does not rattle or shake when your minivan is driving at highway speeds.

The bike mounts are safe and secure. Heavy duty ratcheting straps hold your bikes in place. These ratcheting straps are lined in soft material to avoid damaging the paintwork of your bikes.

We tested a number of different bike frame shapes and sizes with this rack. All of them fit perfectly, and we did not have to deal with any of the bikes moving inside the cradles thanks to the adjustable ratcheting straps.

The carrying arms are also padded so that there is no chance of your bikes getting damaged. Speaking of, these carrying arms are also longer than most other bike racks. This has the benefit of keeping each bike further away from the next.

If you want to park in a tight space or smaller garage, you can fold down the carrying arms. And when you need to access your cargo area, there is a convenient lever on top of the rack which you can use to tilt the whole rack forward.

This minivan bike rack is compatible with both 1 ¼” and 2” hitch receivers. On the road, we found this rack to be perfectly stable and wobble free. This is thanks to Yakima’s patented AutoPin system, which automatically positions the rack in the hitch receiver.

Installing the rack is also pretty easy and straightforward. You won’t need any tools at all, thanks to the SpeedKnob technology that uses conveniently placed knobs to mount the rack onto your minivan.

It also comes with Yakima’s SKS lock system, which locks the rack to the hitch, and the bikes to the rack. This is a comprehensive security system that prevents your bikes from being stolen or tampered with.

14. hule Helium Pro Hitch Bike Rack

The Thule Helium Pro is a premium bike rack that combines a lightweight build with impressive load capacity and a really useful feature set.

This is one of the only minivan bike racks with an all aluminium build. This has a couple different benefits: firstly, it is almost half the weight of similar alloy steel bike racks, so you aren’t adding too much weight to the back of your minivan. Aluminium is also more resistant to rust and corrosion.

That awesome construction enables a higher load capacity. This two bike rack is rated for over 75 lbs. That means you can carry larger mountain bikes, electric bikes, and any heavy road bike that you can find.

It uses high quality ratcheting straps to secure your bikes. These straps are adjustable, making for a more secure and precise fit for various different bike frame shapes.

It is compatible with both 1 ¼” and 2” hitch receivers. Either way, we noticed that this bike rack for minivans is more stable than the others we’ve tested. So much so, that even when we went over a large pothole, the bike rack was unfazed.

The anti sway cradles are a welcome addition. They reduce bike-to-bike contact and prevent the bikes from banging against one another. Moreover, there is over 7” of space between the individual bike cradles, making sure that they don’t damage each other or the back of your minivan.

The carrying arms can be folded down, and the whole rack tilts forward for easier cargo access. This is pretty common in high quality bike racks, but the standout feature is Thule’s use of a convenient hand lever which controls the tilting mechanism.

As for real-world performance, we were impressed by how secure and confidence inspiring this bike rack is. It kept our bike secure and firmly in place and did not even flinch when we went over some rough terrain.

Another benefit of the aluminium construction is its higher structural rigidity and that definitely shows in real-world usage. This rack does not wobble or shake at all, even at higher speeds.

Pros

  • Aluminium build
  • Lighter than alloy steel
  • More structurally rigid
  • Better resistance to rust and corrosion
  • Rated to hold 75 lbs
  • Can hold electric bikes, mountain bikes, etc
  • Adjustable ratcheting straps for better fitment
  • Compatible with both 1 ¼” and 2” hitches
  • Anti sway cradles reduce bike-to-bike contact
7” of space between individual cradles
  • Convenient lever for folding and tilting the rack

Cons

  • One of the most expensive options on this list

15. DELUXE TRUNK MOUNTED BIKE RACK

Allen Sports return with the Deluxe Trunk Mounted bike rack. It has a lightweight build, compact design, and enough load capacity to hold 2 road bikes. It’s easy to install, store, and transport.

This compact trunk mounted bike rack is made entirely of alloy steel. It is a smaller rack, but still has a sturdy construction. The compact size is great for minivan drivers who don’t need to have a bike rack at all times. It is dead easy to store and transport.

Load capacity is also pretty good for such a small rack. It is rated for around 70 lbs, which is more than enough to hold two large sized road bikes. It cannot, however, carry larger electric bikes and mountain bikes.

That said, it has a firm and secure mounting system that comprises rubberised feet for extra grip, and thick nylon straps on all four sides for stability. The rubberised feet sit on your minivan’s trunk area and do so without scratching or damaging the paintwork.

It uses Allen Sports’ patented tiedown system to hold your bikes. There are two adjustable ratcheting straps per bike frame. The inner lining is rubber to avoid scratching the bikes.

We tested different bike frame shapes and all of them fit perfectly. The carrying arms are spaced wider apart, allowing you to hold longer wheelbase bikes.

This rack provides a ton of utility, especially when you consider the affordable price tag. Pound for pound, this bike rack is probably the most useful we have ever tested.

That lightweight build also makes it easier to mount and install. You won’t needMore than 15 minutes to have the rack fully set up and ready to go.

It also receives Alan sports limited lifetime warranty, which covers any manufacturing defect. This type of warranty makes it so much easier for us to recommend this bike rack to you. mBut we expect you’ll never need to use that warranty given how sturdy and stable this bike rack is at speed.

We installed this rack on our minivan and tested it in a number of different road conditions. It passed with flying colours in even the bumpiest and roughest settings.

Pros

  • Alloy steel build
  • Most compact design of any rack
  • Side straps keep rack stable
  • Ideal for drivers who only occasionally need the rack
  • Easy to install
  • Holds 2 bikes
  • 70 lbs load capacity
  • Straps secure bike at the frame and handlebars
  • No rattling or creaking noises
  • 115 inch width can hold larger bikes
  • Padded lower frame protects car bodywork

Cons

  • Not ideal for carrying heavier electric bikes
